Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Swadhar Yojana is implemented by the Social Justice and Special Assistance Department, Government of Maharashtra.
The scheme provides financial assistance for food, accommodation, maintenance and educational materials to eligible Scheduled Caste and Neo-Buddhist students who are eligible for admission to a government hostel but have not received or taken hostel admission.
The scheme is applicable to students studying in Class 11, Class 12 and eligible higher, professional and non-professional courses.
Annual Financial Assistance:
• Mumbai, Mumbai Suburban, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Nagpur: ₹60,000 per year
• Other Revenue Divisional Cities and remaining Class-C Municipal Corporation areas: ₹51,000 per year
• Other Districts: ₹43,000 per year
• Taluka Level: ₹38,000 per year
• Medical and Engineering students: Additional ₹5,000 for educational materials
• Students of other branches: Additional ₹2,000 for educational materials
Important Eligibility:
• Applicant must belong to the Scheduled Caste or Neo-Buddhist category.
• Applicant must be a resident of Maharashtra.
• Annual family income must not exceed ₹2.50 lakh.
• Applicant must be eligible for admission to a government hostel.
• Applicant should not be a local resident of the place of study.
• Minimum 50% marks are required in the previous qualifying examination.
• Applicant’s bank account must be linked with Aadhaar.
• Selection will be made according to merit and applicable government rules.
Swadhar Renewal applications for Academic Year 2026-27 must be completed on or before 30 September 2026.

How to Apply
1. Visit the official HMAS New portal: https://hmasnew.mahait.org/
2. Complete New Registration or log in using the existing Registration ID.
3. Complete Aadhaar OTP verification.
4. Select the Swadhar Yojana application.
5. Choose New Applicant or Existing Applicant, as applicable.
6. Enter personal, address, caste, income and academic details.
7. Enter hostel and course-related information correctly.
8. Enter the Aadhaar-linked bank account details.
9. Upload all required documents in the prescribed format.
10. Check the complete application carefully.
11. Submit the application before the applicable deadline.
12. Save or print the submitted application and acknowledgement.
13. Contact the Assistant Commissioner of Social Welfare office of the district where you are studying if any correction or verification is required.

• Government Hostel eligibility or hostel-related declaration, where applicable
• Gap Certificate, if there is an educational gap
• Disability Certificate, if applicable
• Other documents requested on the HMAS portal or by the district Social Welfare Office
Important Instructions:
• The student must enter correct Aadhaar, bank and academic details.
• The bank account should be active and linked with the student’s Aadhaar.
• Apply to the Assistant Commissioner of Social Welfare office of the district where the student is studying.
• Students approved as New or Renewal applicants in 2025-26 should apply as Existing Applicants for 2026-27, wherever applicable.
• Students from a district or taluka where a government hostel is unavailable may apply under the applicable Swadhar rules.
• After the last date, changes in the application may not be permitted.
• For technical problems, contact the concerned district Social Welfare Office before the deadline.
